Welcome to HMC

Houston Music Classifieds (HMC) hosted its third annual Solar Flare Music Festival at Axelrad Beer Garden on August 28 and 29, bringing two days of fun and live music to the city. With 50 bands and three stages, the festival featured genres like Jazz, R&B, Rock, Indie, Instrumental, and more. Music resonated across three stages: the Solar Stage, the Celestial Stage under the awning, and the Constellation Stage upstairs.

Different Chris, an indie-rock artist who began making music at 13, always knew he wanted to turn his childhood dream into reality. He began his journey by creating tracks in his room and uploading them to SoundCloud. When asked how he got the name Different Chris, he explained, “I don’t really know; I just liked it and thought it looked nice. ‘Chris’ is such a simple name, and I wanted to be different, so when I had to select a username, I just came up with it.”

Angie J slips a collection of vulnerable, soul-prodding messages to her subjects in her most recent EP.

On June 21, Houston will join cities around the world to mark Make Music Day. Since its launch in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique (meaning both “festival of music” and “make music”), the event has grown to span more than 2,000 cities in 120 countries. More than 5.3 million music-making events took place nationwide in 2025.

Houston artist Joho released their tenth full length album earlier this spring, continuing their impressive and consistent output of new music since their debut record in 2019. Joho began songwriting at six years old, sharing that music was always something that felt natural.
