5301.18a Arts & Culture Lab

Venue Description

A utilitarian community space for artists.

5301.18a Arts & Culture Lab is a transdisciplinary creation laboratory of artists that experiment, produce and exhibit contemporary artistic practices with a social and community focus. An old cafeteria built in 1920 to feed the workers of a historic industrial park now houses the exchange and harmonious coexistence between artists and their various manifestations.

Through workshops, artistic residencies, and cultural production gatherings; the Laboratory achieves to be an oasis of creativity, community and collective practices that intend to form a self-sustaining organism through the living culture of collaboration and the sharing/facilitating of resources.

The Lab gives space and time to these manifestations to physically and mentally build other rhythms and ways of life in the multicultural society of Houston.

Everything that currently exists was built gradually with the personal effort of Carlos Castaneira, Teresa Berumen and all the artists and collaborators that now make up this collective project.
